Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It's a testament to the success of the Now That's What I Call Music series that this is the 47th instalment in the ever-popular series. Its combination of all that makes the British pop charts great is its winning formula, and one that it certainly doesn't stray from here. On the pure pop front there are scene leaders Robbie Williams ("Rock DJ"), Ronan Keating ("Life Is A Rollercoaster"), Steps ("Stomp") and Britney Spears ("Lucky"); and keeping the rock flag flying are U2 ("Beautiful Day"), David Gray ("Babylon") and Bon Jovi ("It's My Life"). The two leading lights of the dance scene--2-Step and trance--are well represented with Architects ("Body Groove") and Craig David ("7 Days") on a 2-Step trip and trance masters Storm ("Time To Burn") and Darude ("Feel The Beat") There is also a smattering of R&B thrown in for good measure courtesy of Sisqo ("Unleash The Dragon") and Melanie B ("Tell Me"). In fact there is something of a plethora of Spice Girls present--Posh and Melanies C and B all have solo work featured, and they all team up with Emma for "Holler". In a world where the Number One single seems to change every week, Now 47 proves that there is life in the pop charts yet. --Helen Marquis

5.0 out of 5 stars 2000: The best Of, 13 Dec 2000
By A Customer
NOW 47 is great. It has the best artists and songs from the year (Including the #1, and #3 biggest sellers of 2000!) CD 1 starts with Robbie Williams (RockDJ) great song and ranges from dance (Modjo - Lady),Rock (U2 - Beautiful Day) and CD 1 ends with a dose of pop (Anastacia - I'm Outta Love),(S Club 7 - Natural), (Robbie/Kylie - Kids). CD 2 starts were CD 1 left off - straight in with pop (Kylie - On A Night Like This), (Steps - Stomp), (Mel C - I Turn To You). And, as usual, CD 2 then continues with dance (Darude - Feel The Beat), (Sonique - Sky). And finally, the CD finishes with pop/r n b - (Mel B - Tell Me), (Louise - Beautiful Inside), (Gabrielle - Should I Stay).

Best Songs: LeAnn Rimes (Can't Fight The Moonlight), All Saints (Pure Shores), Robbie (Rock DJ, Kids) and Steps (Stomp.

Worst Songs: B Boys (Who Let The Dogs Out) "tribute" to the Baha Men and Darude (Feel The Beat).

All in All one great album!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of the hits from August 'til November., 7 Dec 2000
By A Customer
I've got all the Now's since 34 (the time I got into music) and they've all been great - this one is no exception. This is a great CD set. As usual CD 1 starts with the biggest hits - on this occasion, Robbie Williams 'Rock DJ', Modjo's 'Lady' and Ronan Keating's Life Is A Rollercoaster', all in the Top 20 of the year so far. Then we get a more guitar-influenced-tip, with the likes of Texas, Bon Jovi, U2 and David Gray. Next we have some pop/RnB thrown in, and in that part, we get the only garage song on the compilation (surprisingly), Architechs' 'Body Groove'. We end on guitar-style music again with the likes of Robbie & Kylie and Coldplay with their excellent 'Trouble'. Over to Disc 2, and now generally the part, that George Michael would call 'for the feet'. At fisrt the style of dance is more pop-based, with Steps, Martine McCutcheon and Kylie, but as the CD moves on, it becomes more dance, finishing with the hardcore 'Doom's Night' by Azzido da Bass. Then we get some great MOBO thrown in for good measure. High points - Robbie, S Club 7 and Steps. Lows: Darude (good if you're drunk, but too similar to Sandstorm) and B Boyz. All the current CD's seem to want Who Let The Dogs Out, but they have all had to settle for the original version. I saw an early tracklisting of the CD, and they could have done with Janet's 'Doesn't Really Matter' and Corrs' 'Breathless'. All in all, a great reflection of the moment, and at times, the year, but no.45 was better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music has never been so cool!, 18 Nov 2000

The Now series continues with yet another classic compilation album you must get your hands on. This album is the perfect stocking filler for upcoming Crimbos and is better than any DJ you can hire for a party! CD1 - The first CD starts off with the king of pop Robbie Williams and, unusually for a Now album, continues with the likes of Bon Jovi and U2. Not that this isn't an improvement - it is. It just shows rock is replacing the cheesy pop of nowadays. David Gray's Babylon is also thrown in for good measure. After the biggest selling single of the year (the heavenly All Saints' Pure Shores), it's all bouncy happy pop with the likes of S Club 7, Britney, and Sam Mumba all appearing. However, the tracklisting improves towards the end with a few corkers. I'm Outta Love by Anastascia is a personal fave, as is the smashing duet between Robbie and Kylie. The first disc finishes off with the beautiful Trouble by the band-of-the-moment Coldplay.

CD2 - The second disc is kicked off with Martine (aka Tiffany) McCutcheon's new single I'm Over You. After a smattering of pop, the big dance anthems follow. Not being a big fan of dance, a few of these are hit-or-miss with me. But, as always, you have to respect Now's diversity. After the club tunes, the extra space is filled up with the likes of Louise (with her catchy single Beautiful Inside) and Mel B (who's latest solo outing Tell Me is included). Gabrielle finishes things off in style with her own brand of Motown inspired sound.

So make the most of these tunes till the spring, when volume 48 will hit the shops!
